Recently, I went on a guided walk around part of Tudor London with some of my friends. We started at Chancery Lane and finished near St Paul’s. It was a wet and miserable day but we enjoyed the walk because it was exciting and enthralling.
There weren’t many Tudor buildings in this part of the city because most had been destroyed in the Great Fire of London. The first Tudor building we saw had been turned into a Vodafone store. (I wonder how many wives Henry VIII would have had if he could have texted them when he needed a new one!!!) Read the rest of this entry »

The Diamond of Drury Lane by Julia Golding (Egmont Books, 2008)
I got this book last summer and it is now one of my favourites. I am going to review it.
The book is a historical fiction novel set in the 1700s. The main character is Cat (Catherine) Royal who is an orphan and lives in the Theatre Royal, on Drury Lane in London, which is how she got her surname. The story is very funny. When I grow up I want to be a scientist. Throughout history women scientists have not been properly recognized. Here are five women scientists who have made important discoveries.
Mary Anning
1799-1847
Mary Anning was the first woman fossil hunter. She lived in Lyme Regis on the Dorset coast. She is most famous for discovering an almost complete skeleton of an Ichthyosaurus, an extinct type of marine reptile. The Ichthyosaurus is still on display in the Natural History Museum in London. There are plans to close the A&E at my local hospital, Lewisham. Only this year they spent £12m on refurbishments. The nearest A&E would be Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich (where I was born!) which will be shared by all of South East London. They may also close the children’s wards, critical care, emergency and complex surgery units, and perhaps the maternity services at Lewisham Hospital. I think this is wrong.
