Fox Friend [Chapter 2]

lizzie & ella

This is Chapter 2 of my story Fox Friend which I am publishing on my blog chapter by chapter. Chapter 1 is here.

.

Chapter 2 Ella’s story

“I was born as the youngest of five. The oldest was called Max (who was at university so we hardly ever saw him), then dear Willow, and then the twins May and Emma, then Julia and finally me. My mum had married twice the first time she had Max but then her husband died of cancer. She married again and with her second husband had all four girls although I was born after they split up. Everything was normal until my fifth birthday when Max got hit by a car. Although he recovered, he was never the same again. I may have told you that I had two cats called Leo and Angel, well it was about this time I got them. Angel later had two kittens called Ginger and Sophie.” Read the rest of this entry »

Tudor walk

_MAL2142

Recently, I went on a guided walk around part of Tudor London with some of my friends. We started at Chancery Lane and finished near St Paul’s. It was a wet and miserable day but we enjoyed the walk because it was exciting and enthralling.

There weren’t many Tudor buildings in this part of the city because most had been destroyed in the Great Fire of London.  The first Tudor building we saw had been turned into a Vodafone store. (I wonder how many wives Henry VIII would have had if he could have texted them when he needed a new one!!!) Read the rest of this entry »

Fox Friend [Chapter 1]

amber

I am writing a story called Fox Friend  about a little girl called Lizzie and a talking fox. I am going to post a chapter every month. The picture was drawn by my mum.

Chapter 1 Foxes

“Lizzie, time for tea!” called Ella. “Coming!” shouted Lizzie, as she raced through the garden. “Mum says whoever finishes first gets the…” “The biggest piece of chocolate cake!” shouted Mia and Lilly, the twins. Lilly ran into the house and sat down, closely followed by Mia. “Those two are going to get it”, said Ella. “Who cares anyway”, said Rosie, walking up to her sisters. “It’s just a bit of cake.”

Lizzie took another look at the bushes at the bottom of the garden. “I’m going in”, she told her sisters and walked off. “What has gotten into her? She’s been staring at those bushes ever since school finished”, said Rosie. “I think she’s looking for foxes”, said Ella.  “Foxes, why would she look for foxes?” asked Rosie. “Probably because she likes them”, said Ella. “I’m going in.” Rosie followed her sister muttering to herself, “Foxes, why foxes? Who would like foxes?” Read the rest of this entry »

The Diamond of Drury Lane

The Diamond of Drury Lane by Julia Golding (Egmont Books, 2008)

I got this book last summer and it is now one of my favourites. I am going to review it.

The book is a historical fiction novel set in the 1700s.  The main character is Cat (Catherine) Royal who is an orphan and lives in the Theatre Royal, on Drury Lane in London, which is how she got her surname. The story is very funny. It is written in the first person. And instead of chapters it is in acts and scenes. Read the rest of this entry »

Five women scientists

When I grow up I want to be a scientist. Throughout history women scientists have not been properly recognized. Here are five women scientists who have made important discoveries.

Mary Anning
1799-1847

Mary Anning was the first woman fossil hunter. She lived in Lyme Regis on the Dorset coast. She is most famous for discovering an almost complete skeleton of an Ichthyosaurus, an extinct type of marine reptile.  The Ichthyosaurus is still on display in the Natural History Museum in London. She is my favourite woman scientist. Save Lewisham A&E

There are plans to close the A&E at my local hospital, Lewisham. Only this year they spent £12m on refurbishments. The nearest A&E would be Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich (where I was born!) which will be shared by all of South East London.  They may also close the children’s wards, critical care, emergency and complex surgery units, and perhaps the maternity services at Lewisham Hospital. I think this is wrong.

In September I had a Dinosnores sleepover birthday party at the Natural History Museum. My friend Suki liked it so much she decided to have a sleepover party at London Zoo. I am going to compare the two. Read the rest of this entry »
